From administrative assistant to project controller

Taking steps towards a better future

Ghada Al-Motawakil

Ghada Al-Motawakil came to the Netherlands from Yemen seven years ago. At TopTaal, she worked her way up from administrative assistant to project controller.

Ghada began her Dutch career at a foundation for newcomers and subsequently worked at an organization where English was the primary language. This was comfortable for someone who studied English literature in Yemen – but one day she realized: I live in the Netherlands, so… I must speak Dutch! Not only in her social life, but also at work. Through her contact person at the municipality, she got in touch with TopTaal. TopTaal has an eye for talent and offers opportunities to everyone. You can truly develop and grow here. Ghada joined the company as an administrative assistant and, thanks to her experience in project management and data analysis, progressed to project planner and then project controller. She monitors the data of all students in all municipalities and prepares analyses and quarterly reports – essential information for clients. When her head is full of figures, she goes outside for a walk. During the Night of the Refugee, she walked forty kilometers, from midnight until eleven o'clock the next morning. Her tips for language-learners who persevere: do not keep falling back on English, find work that suits you, and ensure you get enough relaxation – that way you can keep it up for longer.
