The TopTaalCafé

With the TopTaalCafé, we want to offer a place for everyone who wants to speak Dutch.

Het TopTaalCafé

On Thursday, January 9, TopTaal will launch 'The TopTaalCafé' on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam and in collaboration with the OBA.

With the TopTaalCafé, we want to offer a place for everyone who wants to speak Dutch. Non-native speakers and volunteers have the opportunity to engage in conversation with one another. The meetings are accessible and there is a relaxed atmosphere. Nothing is mandatory, everything is allowed. But in Dutch.

Free

The best way to learn and practice a language is by doing. Speaking is the most important part of truly mastering a language. This works best in a casual way at a cozy location. You are not obliged to speak at the TopTaalCafé. This accessibility and lack of obligation often ensures that people actually dare to talk. The language café is a weekly free event, allowing people to establish lasting contacts and better find their way into society.

Various themes

Every week, a specific theme takes center stage. Often, these themes will align with current (local) events or topics relevant to daily life as a newcomer in Amsterdam. Attention is given to 21st-century skills such as media literacy and digital skills, and there is room to relax through Dutch board games. Once a month, there is a concluding TopTalk, in which someone from the group or a guest speaker talks about a specific subject.

The TopTaalCafé is held every Thursday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Amsterdam Public Library (OBA) in Buitenveldert.
