Everything is health and literacy

TopTaal signed the pledge along with 69 others

Strengthening cooperation between health and literacy
Contributing to 'Voel je goed!' (Feel good!), an integrated approach in the field of overweight and health literacy. Training employees to identify low literacy and refer people to appropriate language training. Bringing parties together to develop new products, services, and concepts that contribute to the approach to low literacy. This is a selection of the promises made by the twelve parties joining the Health and Literacy Alliance today, part of the National Prevention Program 'Alles is gezondheid…' (Everything is health…)

Relationship between health and literacy
People who have difficulty understanding and applying information often have poorer health than literate people. They use healthcare more frequently, have less knowledge about health, and have more difficulty with treatment adherence and self-care. They also have a higher chance of dying sooner.

Language training and health
There is much to be gained for those with low literacy. Language training not only makes people more proficient in language, but also happier, more self-reliant, and more active; furthermore, those with low literacy feel both physically and mentally healthier after completing training. All partners of the alliance promise to actively commit to reducing low literacy in the Netherlands.

New partners
On November 22, 2016, twelve new parties from all sectors of society signed the 'Alles is gezondheid…' pledge in The Hague.
