Skills for Employment at Ikea
Since 2021, TopTaal has had an intensive partnership with IKEA in the Skills for Employment program established by IKEA. Together with the IKEA Foundation and UNHCR, IKEA is working to change the perception of refugees. They do this, among other things, by putting talent and ambition first. With the Skills for Employment program, people with a refugee background worldwide are given the opportunity to gain work experience within IKEA to increase their chances on the labor market.
In the Netherlands, 70 people with a refugee background per year are given the opportunity to work in various IKEA departments through an internship. At the same time, they receive an intensive language course at TopTaal. In addition, IKEA collaborates in this program with Refugee Talent Hub and VluchtelingenWerk.
A wonderful opportunity to gain work experience while further improving Dutch language proficiency.

Abdulsamad - Skills for Employment Participant
‘After a very difficult period, I am proud of what I have achieved in my life. I am proud that I have now been given a job at IKEA. Outside of work, I am proud of my stability in life; I am on my way to being able to support myself independently in the Netherlands.’
