Yazmin Herrera Largo moved from Colombia to the Netherlands in 2009 and passed her civic integration exam at TopTaal within six months. She still enjoys attending her classes.
When Yazmin moved to the Netherlands, she wanted to learn the language immediately. In 2010, she started the fast-track integration course at TopTaal and passed her exam in six months. She particularly enjoys the in-person lessons: you learn faster in a group than behind a screen, and her teacher explains everything until you truly understand it. I really love Holland! It is my second home. The Netherlands appeals to her as a country of rules, values, and standards. She finds the people honest, kind, and helpful. And public transport? Fantastic – an incredibly good network for such a small country, ideal for someone who loves to go on a voyage of discovery. In addition to her lessons, Yazmin does volunteer work at the thrift store and the food bank. She speaks Dutch there all day long – perfect for practicing. In Colombia, she worked as a nurse. Here, she dreams of a job in a fashionable clothing store, with many wonderful interactions. Learn Dutch as soon as you can. Without the language, you won't get far. Her tip for other newcomers: do not fall back on English – after all, you live in the Netherlands! More stories
