The Activation for Work 2020 program will start in September. The success of the identical program in Apeldoorn last year has led to an expansion: in addition to Apeldoorn, the program will now also start in Epe, and several other municipalities have shown interest. We are once again collaborating with Blik op Talent and local volunteer organizations.

Who are the participants?
Participants in the dual track are permit holders with a significant distance to the labor market. For this target group, it is difficult to gain insight into where their opportunities lie in the Dutch labor market. Often, the profession they practiced in their country of origin is very different in the Netherlands. In addition, there is little contact with people outside their own household, and besides Dutch language proficiency, it also requires courage and a guided step-by-step plan to effectively start the journey toward work. Therefore, three half-day sessions of language lessons and one half-day session of empowerment are provided per week. The language lessons are linked to themes (for example: the city and your neighborhood, building networks, applying for jobs, Dutch work culture). The lessons are interspersed with practical assignments. There are also external activities such as getting to know a neighborhood activity, visiting the library, etc. The empowerment session is aimed at developing self-knowledge in relation to participating in Dutch work culture: who am I, what do I want, and what can I do?

Where the opportunities and possibilities lie
It is essential that participants get a clear picture of where their opportunities and possibilities lie and gain a vivid impression of this in practice. We achieve this by visiting companies and showing what the work entails, what is expected of you, and what the possibilities are. The activities align with the participants' personal goals. From the start of the program, there is close cooperation with the municipality's case manager.

During the application and intake phase, attention is paid to the participant's personal goals together with the case manager. This forms the basis and provides clarity; the participant knows what they are working toward. In the programs in Apeldoorn and Epe, employment agency Lucrato is also involved from the start, ensuring that the transition to a supported workplace at the end of the program is as seamless as possible.
